Andrew Roberts-Wray, headmaster, confirms that due to rapid growth in pupil numbers we now have waiting lists in 3 classes. He advises parents to decide if they want places for September 2012 and to register now. The plan will be to open extra classes in these years as soon as possible.
This term got off to a flying start with Forms 1 – 8 joining in the DASP Olympic Torch handover and the Sunninghill Creation of a human timeline in
Dorchester. They are also developing the modern penthalon with new fencing and pistol shooting clubs, which are open to members of the local community as well as the school. To assist their equally busy parents they have started a popular breakfast club.
The Accelerated Reading Programme with the school’s Librarian and English specialist continues to make a great difference by boosting pupil’s confidence and enjoyment of reading. In addition Sunninghill are able to track progress for the Prep and Pre-Prep classes using a Raising Attainment Plan and computerised tracking system. Their research this year has shown that not only is
Sunninghill helping many children achieve better than predicted results, but are also making significant improvements in their baseline ability scores year on year.
To enhance this initiative Forms 1 – 8 benefit from an Enrichment programme, every Friday afternoon, designed to develop thinking patterns across curriculum topics. For example, their recent ‘Get Creative’ enrichment session involved, Stomp – making music using broomsticks, ICT Animated Plasticine Figures, Olympic Sport Collages, Clay Mini -Beasts, Drama and Aboriginal Art.
