Pre Prep

(for 5 to 7 year olds)

In the Pre Prep we nurture and develop each individual child. Forms (Years) 1 and 2 continue to build on the successes of the Early Years. Again the focus is on developing individual learners. Although we base our curriculum on the National Curriculum we do not follow it slavishly. Children who show early enthusiasm for reading and numbers are encouraged to forge ahead and enhance their skills early. Reading skills are developed through the teaching of synthetic phonics and a combination of traditional reading schemes, which we supplement at each level with a range of different reading materials.

This gives children a structured system with flexibility to develop their comprehension skills. Children develop their understanding of numbers through practical tasks and fun activities, before moving onto the more formal learning of mathematical concepts. At the same time we develop their physical, creative and social skills, and knowledge of the world through play. Again our children have the benefit of specialist teachers for French, Music, Art, ICT, Dance, PE and Games each week from an early age, which develops their coordination, agility and other physical abilities. Music is integral to the curriculum, while art is incorporated, along with drama through role playing into their learning.

A primary aim of the curriculum is to encourage our children to make choices and to be individuals, while team skills are nurtured by emphasis on social skills. By encouraging our children to become; Resourceful, Responsible, Resilient, Reciprocal and Reflective, we develop their independence and their ability to share which prepares them to be rounded young people.
