At
Sunninghill we have a strong partnership with parents. Education for us
involves the pupil, the school and the parents all focused on helping
the child achieve to their full potential.
As a school we aim to work with parents on a wide variety of areas from
homework and choosing the best school for their child’s future, to
healthy eating and minimising the effects of modern living that puts
huge pressures on our children.
As
a result we have social events, newsletters, regular reports, homework
diaries and parents evenings, which all help to improve communications
and maintain an inter-active dialogue. There is also a strong parents’
association, which helps raise extra funds for the school and stages
great social events for parents and the staff.
Parents Association
The
Parents, Friends and Teachers Association is a thriving group at
Sunning hill, which fosters understanding between staff, Governors and
parents and provides a social calendar of events for the school. The
PTFA hosts a series of activities throughout the year for children and
parents to enjoy - from Easter Egg Hunts, to a Summer Fun Day, a quiz
curry night and a Christmas Bazaar. The highlight is a glamorous Ball,
which is held every other year - the theme on the 31st of January 2009
is 'Snowflake', at Athelhampton house. Please email

Funds
raised from PTFA events are spread carefully through every area of the
school, to enrich the curriculum of key departments, sports, music and
the environment. Hence purchases in 2007 - 2008 have included musical
instruments, history artefact boxes, digital cameras and printers, a
sound system for drama, equipping the gardening club and knit and
stitch club, paper recycling bins for every classroom and a
refurbishment of the nursery garden for example.
An
AGM is held every year, in October where key officers and a form link
parent is elected for every year in the school - hence there are a
minimum of 9 parent members, and a member of staff on the committee at
any one time. The PTFA currently has 14 members from across the school.
