Eco-Schools helps children become more effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment and embed these principles into the heart of school life. By following the Eco-Schools programme Sunninghill is tackling environmental issues, becoming a sustainable school and a stimulating place in which to learn.

Our Eco-Code is a mission statement to becoming a sustainable school.

Work for the world!

Only use energy efficient objects!

Recycle, re-use and rescue our world!

Lights left on are to be turned off!

Dont't wait for tomorrow, save for today!

Pupil involvement is a key part of the Eco-Schools programme. Having pupils engaged in the whole process, including monitoring, action planning and decision-making, leads to genuine ownership of the programme and an increase in their sense of responsibility for the school environment and local area.

At Sunninghill we have gained our Bronze and Silver Eco-School Award through our environmental projects. These include recycling, composting, growing fruit and vegetables, creating a garden, building a bug mansion, taking part in a switch-off campaign and going out into the community to raise the awareness of the problem of dropping chewing gum.

We are now working on gaining the Green Flag Award by developing the pond area with the help of Dorset Wildlife Trust.
