The quality of Pastoral Care and education at
Sunninghill influences the ethos and tone of the whole school. It
creates an atmosphere in which children feel secure, know that they are
valued and are encouraged in their learning, growth and social
development within a healthy and safe environment. We are acutely aware
of the difficulties faced by our children growing up in the 21st
century as global citizens and the many influences that they encounter
from society towards issues such as leisure in relation to health.
Personal, social and health education (PSHE) and citizenship form part
of the daily curriculum and as such allows for the development of
essential social, emotional and life skills.
Sunninghill
helps to give children and young people the knowledge, skills and
understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent
lives, as a responsible and active global citizen of the future. It
aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and
socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues
that are part of growing up.
At Sunninghill, we aim to deliver a balanced PSHE curriculum through the following subjects and periods of time:
> PE & Games
> Religious Studies
> Science
> Form tutor period at the start and end of the day
> Dedicated PSHE period
> Headmaster’s assembly at the start of the week
> Form assembly at the end of the week
> House assemblies to be developed
> Children will take part in visits that support PSHE.
The aims of PSHE also support those of the whole school pastoral policy:
> To create an environment where children are safe and contented
> To ensure the all-round development of each child
> To help children grow in self-esteem, confidence and independence of thought
> To communicate to our children values and beliefs that are in keeping with our ethos
>
To protect children from physical, social, emotional and intellectual
harm and to provide them with the skills to cope with possible threats
to their personal safety, both within and outside school
> To encourage tolerance, understanding and sensitivity to the needs of others
> To promote warm and positive relationships between children, staff and parents |
