Reception PDF Print E-mail

In Reception we continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum.  This comprises of six areas of learning :- Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED), Communication, Language and Literacy (CLL), Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy (PSRN), Knowledge and Understanding of the World (KUW), Creative Development (CD) and Physical Development (PD).

We have wonderful free flow access between the Reception, Nursery class and the outdoor area, as well the use of the outdoor classroom and school grounds.

We are also fortunate to have specialist teachers to teach French, Art, Ballet, Music and Physical Education, including swimming in our own school pool and the local facilities in Dorchester.

The children have been learning about ‘When I grow older’ and ‘Autumn’.  We have also joined in with Pre-prep (Form 1 and Form 2) to celebrate the Olympics coming to Dorset next year and we dressed as someone we would like to be in the Olympics.  We discussed the values of the para-olympics and Olympics and linked them to our school golden rules (PSED).

On European Languages day the children came dressed in home clothes that represented a country (KUW) and we have been linking our CLL to this by writing about our costumes and drawing our countries flag (KUW).

We have been enjoying finding out more about Autumn and hunting for signs of Autumn and collecting objects and had a Foundation Unit school trip to Thornecombe Woods, with parents enjoying a time to socialise and get to know each other.
